Application of Waterborne Wax lotion in Waterborne Architectural Coatings

The water-based wax lotion is a catalyst for coating products. It can not only improve the production efficiency, improve the performance of products, improve the waterproof, mildew proof, anti peeling of coatings, and increase the service life of coatings. Although the relative proportion of water-based wax lotion used in coatings is not high, it often plays a key role in improving the performance of coatings and films. Therefore, water-based wax lotion slowly appears some new development trends.

1. Physical Properties of Waterborne Wax lotion

The commonly used oxidized polyethylene lotion for waterborne coatings has a melting range of 90~145 ℃, is light yellow and translucent, odorless and tasteless, has good strength and toughness, and its price is lower than that of palm wax. It has become the preferred wax in the coating and coating industry.

2. Application Characteristics of Waterborne Wax lotion in Waterborne Coatings

(1) Smoothness, abrasion resistance and scratch resistance. After the water-based wax lotion is added to the water-based ink, the wax lotion drifts to the surface of the film during the film forming process, and is evenly dispersed, forming a wax protective layer on the film, reducing the friction coefficient; Therefore, the wear resistance and smoothness of the coating are excellent, and it also changes the direction of the coating's stress, improving the coating's scratch resistance.

(2) The effect of lotion particle size on the gloss of the coating is that the visible light wavelength is 400~700nm. When the particle size of water-based wax lotion is less than 1/2 of the visible light wavelength, i.e.≤ 200nm, light diffraction will occur, which can improve the gloss of the coating. It is generally believed that the greater the particle size change of wax lotion, the more obvious the gloss effect; In addition, the glossiness of the coating is also related to the crystallinity of the wax. The particle size of wax lotion has reached nanometer level, which is the best surface protective agent for high gloss ink wash system.

3. Application range of water-based wax lotion

Waterborne wax lotion is widely used in food packaging containers, textile, resin finishing agent, softener, printing ink, water-based paint, printing glue, water-based varnish (leather, shoe, paper, shoe latex, adhesive, car care, floor care), etc.

With the rapid development of water-based coatings industry, the application range of water-based wax lotion is more and more extensive. Therefore, the quality and output of water-based wax products should be further improved to meet the diversified needs of the market.
